What is Whānau Resilience
Our Whānau Resilience service provides a culturally grounded, supportive wānanga space for whānau who have experienced violence at different stages of their lives.
Guided by mātauranga Māori, our kaimahi create safe spaces for healing, reflection, and reconnection. Many of our kaimahi bring lived experience in the family harm space, offering genuine empathy, understanding, and practical support.
This service focuses on strengthening identity, restoring balance, and empowering whānau to rebuild their lives in a way that supports long-term safety and resilience.

Marcia Johnson
Kaimahi
As a Whānau Support Worker, my role is to walk alongside whānau as they navigate their journey toward healing and resilience in the family harm space. I work in a whānau-led way, supporting their goals and advocating their needs—whether that’s building financial independence, accessing essential services, or ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
I am passionate about creating a safe, non-judgmental space for whānau to be heard, supported, and empowered. With lived experience in this space, I bring empathy, understanding, and a strong commitment to uplifting the mana of every whānau I work with. It’s a privilege to do this mahi and to support others in their journey toward safety, stability, and wairua healing.
