Celebrating Our Mataora

Te Hononga Celebrates Mataora Irohia Mahia’s Outstanding Service

On 18 July 2025, Te Kaupapa Collective held their inaugural ‘Rā Whakanui’ in Te Rapa, Kirikiriroa — an event created to recognise and honour the significant impact and success of the Access and Choice Kaupapa Māori services delivered throughout Waikato, Counties Manukau, and Tāmaki Makaurau.

The occasion paid tribute to the many kaimahi and paataki/partners whose mahi continues to uplift whānau and strengthen the foundations of our kaupapa.

We are proud to celebrate Irohia Mahia, one of our dedicated Mataora here at Te Hononga o Tāmaki me Hoturoa, who received a prestigious award at the Rā Whakanui. Irohia’s recognition was based on nominations from across the Te Kaupapa regions — a testament to his unwavering commitment, deep cultural grounding, and the transformative impact of his mahi with whānau.

The tohu reads:

“We acknowledge and celebrate you for honouring intergenerational identity, weaving tikanga into everyday practice, championing whānau-led solutions grounded in indigenous wisdom. Your commitment uplifts the kaupapa and whānau.”

As a team and organisation we are deeply proud of Irohia and the way he continues to embody the principles of Mahi a Atua and the values of Te Hononga.

Ka mau tō wehi, Irohia!

Mana Kidz

Kia ora,

Ko Rebecca Nalder tōku ingoa.

I am a Team Leader and Registered Nurse working in the Mana Kidz Programme in primary schools in South Auckland, with a focus on Rheumatic Fever Prevention.

The Mana Kidz programme strives to improve the lives of children by providing them and their Whānau with easy access to health care.

I am also a Community Nurse Prescriber which means I can prescribe medication that Whānau would otherwise have to see a GP for.

I am passionate about equity in health care and working within vulnerable communities in an attempt to better their health outcomes.

I am married to Mark, have 3 teenagers and a dog, and I love running, reading and holidays!!
